Explore #7 of the Berlin or Bust Tour

Day Two

After completing our exploration of the Women’s bath house and sanatorium at Beelitz on the second morning of our German roadtrip, James and I then moved on to explore the Women’s lung treatment clinic and surgery buildings.

For a history of Beelitz, and many more photos from the Men’s sanatorium and bath house please see my first Beelitz report here.

Anyway, on with the photos…

We started at the women’s lung clinic… I loved these huge windows, with the overgrowth pushing through behind them.

Remnants from the red army’s 50-year occupation of Beelitz still remain.

We then moved on the the main surgery building, set apart from the others in the complex.

This stunning old operating room has certainly seen better days, but (for now) the graffiti hasn’t made it to the beautiful turquoise tiled ceiling.

Photography teaches you to always look up – not that I needed any persuading with a ceiling as beautiful as this.

By the time we had finished here James and I had spent perhaps 12+ hours exploring the vast Beelitz complex over the course of 2 days, and we still didn’t end up having time to see everything that we wanted to! But you can’t always see every last thing first time around, and we’d been fortunate to get to witness this amazing place first hand and in glorious sunny late-summer weather which is just a distant memory as I write this one cold March evening back in England. I will definitely be returning to Beelitz as soon as I can – it really was worth the drive all the way from the UK!

Thanks for coming by, and hope you enjoyed – plenty more from our German odyssey coming up very soon…
