History (also partly including abridged and rewritten histories from here and here – all original rights acknowledged) Robert Fletcher joined the paper mill business of Ralph Crompton and Nephews, Bleachers and Papermakers, Stoneclough and Manchester in 1830 shortly after it had opened, and rose through the ranks to eventually become manager of the whole mill. Explore #131: Perseverance Mill, somewhere in the North of England – March 2015

The final target for our UK exploring weekender was this huge disused Mill, nestled amidst rolling hills in the North of England. History I’m not going to give much history in order to protect its location. The Mill dates back to the 1820s, and was a very large producer of woollen cloth, with nearly seven hundred looms by the early 1900s.
