This was a pretty special explore – a huge cold-war era, 3-level air defence radar bunker. The location is top-secret, so don’t even think about asking, cos I won’t be telling! As I parked up to explore Bush Boake Allen I saw that the modest-looking farm buildings on the opposite side of the road were sporting some Herras fencing. Another fairly local site which has been on my list of “to do”s for a while. Stafford Allen set up a farm and factory on the outskirts of Long Melford in 1899 to make natural pharmaceuticals, condiments and perfumes by milling herbs and spices, many of them grown on the spot. These included belladona, digitalis, liquorice and peppermint.
