Confession time: I’d forgotten to post my fifth revisit to this beautiful old asylum, so please forgive the slight temporal glitch in my usual chronological posting!
My previous reports give the detailed history and many more photos, including the most comprehensive report from my first 8-hour visit in November 2013 and a revisit by moonlight in May 2014 for something a little different.
Our Explore
Given that I’d previously explored ‘Sevs’ on no fewer than four five previous occasions, I’d covered most of what was still left to see. But one key part had always eluded me – the water tower. Once I’d even scaled the vicious palisade fencing which guards it, only for the famous security guard Michael to saunter round the corner and give a good natured “Oi! Come on, get out of there”! If there’s one thing worse than climbing palisade, it’s climbing palisade TWICE for zero reward!
In the past three years the redevelopment of the site has moved on rapidly, and large parts of the wards and corridors had already started to be demolished. Sadly, this will probably end up being my final visit…
James and I rendezvoused with Jeremy, and we made our way to our planned access point. Unfortunately it was recently sealed, and after a close call hiding in woodland and evading a security patrol we regrouped and tried another part of the perimeter. This time we were successful, and after a dash across no man’s land we quickly climbed in through the nearest open window. We worked our way across the site to the water tower, grabbing a few shots en route…
Without giving too much away getting up the water tower involved a lot of teamwork and nerves, but finally we made it to the top, and were rewarded with the view…
…and we finished off the explore with a quick visit to the famous red chair…
Thanks for coming up
